Jeff is a 1979 graduate of The University of Richmond. He began his insurance career as a broker with Flat Top Insurance Agency in Bluefield, WV, a regional brokerage firm serving the insurance and surety needs of the mining industry. In 1996, the firm was acquired by Acordia, where Jeff served as Senior Vice President and Profit Center Manager of their Bluefield, WV office. Subsequently, Acordia was acquired by Wells Fargo Insurance Services, where Jeff continued in his role as Senior Vice President.

In 2009, Jeff joined Willis of Tennessee, Inc. as Senior Vice President, where he specialized in the production, placement and servicing of insurance and surety programs for large private and public mining companies. He designed self-insured, large deductible and guaranteed cost workers compensation programs, as well as large deductible and fronted general liability and automobile liability placements. He was a member of Willis’s Exceptional Producers Council in both 2009 and 2010.

In 2011, Jeff joined the risk management department at Alpha Natural Resources, Inc., where he served as Vice President of Total Risk Management. He was responsible for managing the risks and costs associated with asset protection programs for a publicly traded company, including workers’ compensation, property/casualty, marine, directors and officers, fiduciary and corporate surety bonds. While at Alpha, he was a member of Zurich North America’s Energy Risk Management Council from 2014-2015. Since 2015, Jeff has served as a Senior Consultant with Insurance Management Concepts where he has worked with corporate clients on surety bond placements and workers’ compensation loss portfolio transfers.

Larry began his insurance career as an adjuster for Old Republic Insurance in 1970. After 20 years with ORIC Larry continued his career by serving as Vice President and Manager of Continental Insurance’s E&S Casualty Mining Program, as Executive Vice President of Kentucky Employers Mutual Insurance Company and as Vice President of American Mining Insurance Company. Throughout those engagements Larry oversaw Underwriting, Claims and Policyholder Services departments.

Larry joined Wells Fargo Insurance Services in April 2007 where he served as a Broker and Claims Consultant for the Energy Industry Group as well as having a continuing role as a Vice President of Wells Fargo’s TPA Services. In 2018 Larry retired from HS Casualty Claims Solutions, the successor to Wells Fargo TPA.

Over his career Larry has served in many industry groups, including serving as the first President of the Kentucky Workers’ Comp Education Association, President Of Bluegrass Claims Association, Board Member of the Kentucky Claims Association and Board Member of the Kentucky Workers Comp Funding Commission. Larry has also served on various Committees for NCCI and AIA. In 2012 Larry was the recipient of a Life Time Achievement Award from the Department of Insurance and Risk Management at Eastern Kentucky University.

Melanie began her professional career as an insurance defense attorney with Clark and Ward, PLLC, in 2003. Melanie graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law where she was involved as a leader in many programs, including the 2002 state championship Intrastate Trial Team.

Melanie’s legal practice focused on representation of employers across the state of Kentucky in the areas of workers’ compensation, general liability, employment and federal black lung. Melanie continued her legal career with Allen and Newman, PLLC where she argued claims before both the Kentucky Supreme Court and the United States District Court, Western District. Over her 15 years of legal practice Melanie provided legal and insurance claims training on a variety of subjects, including the ever-changing Medicare Secondary Payer Act.

Melanie brought her legal expertise to the insurance industry in 2017 when she joined HealthSmart Casualty Claims as Vice President of Operations. Melanie provided leadership and oversight of HealthSmart claims offices in Kentucky, Virginia, and Florida.

Over her professional career Melanie has served on many industry committees and organizations, including service as an officer for the Kentucky Chapter of the Council on Litigation Management as well as membership to the Kentucky Coal Association. In 2018 Melanie was elected to the board of Kids Chance Kentucky, an organization devoted to providing scholarships to children of Kentucky workers who have been killed or severely injured in work-related accidents.
